Shaolin Jazz

SHAOLIN JAZZ specializes in the development of content and engagements that highlight the parallels between jazz, hip-hop, and martial arts. We are a music based cultural company that produces multimedia engagements which highlight the parallels and similarities between hip-hop culture and jazz culture; including one that involves martial arts. SHAOLIN JAZZ was birthed as a music project, conceived and produced by Gerald Watson and DJ 2-Tone Jones (in early winter ‘11), where 2-Tone artfully blended the acappellas from members of the legendary rap group Wu-Tang Clan with the instrumentals from hand selected jazz greats. Watson and 2-Tone have since expanded SHAOLIN JAZZ - creating a series of innovative music and art experiences under this platform. Since our inception we have received world-wide attention receiving over 80,000 downloads, over 267,000 YouTube views, featured in numerous articles and interviews in major media outlets including National Public Radio (NPR), The Washington Post, and The Washington CityPaper, and has also been showcased and exhibited in numerous creative engagements in New York, Philadelphia, and New Orleans including the historic Blues Alley Jazz Club (Washington, DC), BB Kings Blues Club (New York), and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture (New York).
